Pixcom Energy Awarded Dubai Smart City IoT Project for City-Wide Environmental Monitoring

Pixcom Energy LLC is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Dubai Smart City IoT project by Dubai Municipality, supporting large-scale environmental and public-infrastructure monitoring across the emirate.
The project focuses on FOG (Fats, Oils & Grease) Trap Monitoring and Sewage Manhole Monitoring, addressing critical urban challenges related to wastewater management, environmental compliance, and public health protection.
Large-Scale LPWA IoT Deployment
Pixcom Energy delivered a hybrid Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) IoT architecture, combining multiple communication technologies to ensure optimal coverage, resilience, and scalability across dense urban and underground environments. The solution includes:
- NB-IoT connectivity leveraging e&’s nationwide network
LoRaWAN-based sensor networks using Truesync IoT Systems Global Ltd’s UK-designed hardware and Cloud Bridge
Secure cloud integration with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub
This multi-technology approach ensures reliable data transmission from underground assets, even in challenging RF and power-constrained environments.
Phased Rollout with City-Wide Vision
The initial phase of the project covers approximately 600 locations across Dubai, enabling real-time visibility into FOG accumulation levels and sewage manhole conditions. The architecture has been designed from the outset for massive scalability, with the program expected to expand to 100,000+ monitored locations city-wide in subsequent phases.
The system provides Dubai Municipality with real-time dashboards, alerts, and analytics to support:
- Proactive maintenance and optimized cleaning schedules
- Reduction in blockages, overflows, and environmental incidents
- Improved regulatory compliance and operational efficiency
- Data-driven decision-making for smart city services
